Christopher Englese, an award-winning filmmaker, writer, educator, and activist passed away on November 13, 2023. He was 44.
In his short but impactful life, Chris cofounded the bicycle advocacy group Bike JC where he helped implement the City's first bike lanes and was the catalyst behind the annual (and now famous), Jersey City Ward Tour. He also founded the day trip bus company 'Day Trippers', which brought many like-minded creatives together on fun weekend getaways.
A born and raised product of Jersey City, and a proud resident up to his passing, he loved his hometown more than anyone. From OLC elementary to Hudson Catholic, and NJCU- Chris was not only educated in Jersey City, it was in his blood. His character embodied everything that make it a great place to live. Chris also attended the University of Glasgow in Scotland where he received his Master of Philosophy.
We will never forget his incredible spirit and constant dedication to the betterment of the LGBTQ community, women's reproductive rights, and the city that he loved. His style, character, and charisma were unmatched. We miss his kindness, laughter, charm, humbleness, and beautiful warm soul.
He will be missed endlessly.

We are the friends and family of Chris. He touched our lives in ways we can't even describe. We are saddened, we are lost, but we will always remember our friend. We are dedicated to celebrating his life with everyone who knew him. We are determined to keep his memory, life, and spirit alive with us every day.
